WORK SIDE-BY-SIDE

We’re too geeky to say consultancy, but let’s call it what it is. We all need a little help from the force at times.

(MINI-) DESIGN SPRINT

(MINI-) DESIGN SPRINT

3-5 day sprint to flush out the user journey, start sketching, and ultimately, prepare a storyboard for a release.

PROTOTYPE

From fake it ’til you make it to custom development, we’ll get a prototype up and running, to test, in < 5 days.

BUILD

If you bring it we will build it. Full front-end development. Awesome sauce, right? No “one-size-fit-all” here.

THE LAB KIT

There’s a few core principles we hold near and dear, that we rely on to design engaging, behavior changing, habit forming experiences. See something you like? Contact us directly.

STRUCTURE

complete functional flows

These flow charts help make sure all functionality necessary to complete the experience, in a defined scope, is accounted for. This is the core of your experience

MECHANICS

play, explore, and immerse

People become engaged in an experience when they are are given the space to play, experiment, and immerse themselves  in a narrative. Call it gamification, games, or just simply good design, we create systems of mechanics that work together to do just that.

MOTIVATE

gratification and feedback

You need to guide users through your experience, making sure they understand what they need to do, where they need to do it, and why they should want to do it. We use feedback systems, and rewards, to keep motivation, even in moments that might otherwise results in a dropoff.

THE HERO'S JOURNEY

What do you want your hero, your user, to accomplish in your experience? Why do you want them to engage with your narrative? And how are you going to help them solve the challenges they may encounter along the way? Here’s the breakdown of what you should be thinking about.

NARRATIVE

Your narrative is the core of your experience. We will help you pinpoint the story you want to tell, and why you want to tell it. Ask yourself, what behavior are you hoping to change? Everything about the design of your system should facilitate your narrative. The tools are secondary to the story itself.

THE JOURNEY

Engagement comes when your users’ experience brings them as close as possible to your narrative. Knowing your user journey is a must, be it a new product, or just a new feature in an existing one. Ask, what does the user need to do to complete the flow? Sound complex? Don’t worry, we are experts at mapping this out.

ENGAGEMENT

Now you’ll start designing your system using (game) mechanics, additional narratives, and/or structure. The mechanics should work together to keep the user motivated, and engaged. Even if a mechanic works in a popular product, doesn’t mean it’ll work for you. Design with your purpose in mind.

OUR LAB PARTNERS

We love working in the lab with our partners in crime design, from around the world. Despite questionably letting our inner pun dog with our bad puns, we know we’re who you need to, like we have for our clients, create true engagement.
