play, explore, and immerse
People become engaged in an experience when they are are given the space to play, experiment, and immerse themselves in a narrative. Call it gamification, games, or just simply good design, we create systems of mechanics that work together to do just that.
gratification and feedback
You need to guide users through your experience, making sure they understand what they need to do, where they need to do it, and why they should want to do it. We use feedback systems, and rewards, to keep motivation, even in moments that might otherwise results in a dropoff.
Your narrative is the core of your experience. We will help you pinpoint the story you want to tell, and why you want to tell it. Ask yourself, what behavior are you hoping to change? Everything about the design of your system should facilitate your narrative. The tools are secondary to the story itself.
Engagement comes when your users’ experience brings them as close as possible to your narrative. Knowing your user journey is a must, be it a new product, or just a new feature in an existing one. Ask, what does the user need to do to complete the flow? Sound complex? Don’t worry, we are experts at mapping this out.
Now you’ll start designing your system using (game) mechanics, additional narratives, and/or structure. The mechanics should work together to keep the user motivated, and engaged. Even if a mechanic works in a popular product, doesn’t mean it’ll work for you. Design with your purpose in mind.
